Being a Veteran becomes part and parcel of who they are.

Kathy Gidcumb’s dad was a veteran. His service was important to him. When it came time to arrange services for Kathy’s dad, Tom Revane,  two things were certain. His services would be held at Gibbons Funeral Home in Elmhurst, and his service in the military would be an important part of remembering who he was and how he lived his life. Tom went on to marry, raise a family, serve his community and parish. He was a proud member of the Knights of Columbus. Marya Gibbons explains that “being a veteran becomes part and parcel of who a person is”. Adding, “we ensure that every benefit a veteran earned through their service is presented to the family”.

Thomas A. Gibbons, Jr. explains that veterans are entitled to an American Flag, an honor guard from their branch of the service, and their burial expenses at a National Cemetery are free of charge for a veteran and spouse. That includes a headstone. Abraham Lincoln Cemetery in Elwood, IL is the nearest National Cemetery. Full military honors are part of every service at Lincoln Cemetery. Added Thomas A. Gibbons Jr., “That moment where you present the flag to a family and state ‘On behalf of the President of the United States and a grateful nation’, the gravity of the service and sacrifice made by the men and women who served is impossible to misunderstand”. Kathy Gidcumb says it best, “It really was done just lovely”.
